Braised Artichokes Recipe

4 large artichokes

½ lemon

¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil

½ teaspoon kosher salt

2 bay leaves


  1. Trim the artichoke stems, leaving ½ inch on the artichoke. Cut 1 inch off the top of the leaves. Place the artichokes stem side down in your Dutch oven. Rub the tops of the artichokes with the lemon half. Pour in 4 cups of water, then the oil. Add the salt and bay leaves.

  2. Wrap the lid with a kitchen towel to prevent excess liquid from dripping back into the pot, then put the lid on the pot. Cook over low heat for 50 minutes. Remove the artichokes from the pot and serve warm.
