Cider & Sage Gravy Recipe

Total Time: 50 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided

  • 1 ½ cups finely diced onion

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup apple cider

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • Salt to taste

  • 3 cups chicken stock

  • ¼ cup chopped fresh sage

  • Ground black pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. In a saucepan over medium-low heat, add 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté the onions for about 20 minutes or until golden and soft.

  2. Add the garlic and sauté for another minute.

  3. Add the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter and slowly add flour while stirring to create the roux. Continue cooking and stirring for about 10 minutes until brown, but not burnt.

  4. Gradually add the apple cider, Worcestershire sauce, salt, chicken stock, and sage while stirring until smooth.

  5. Bring gravy to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, or until thickened.

  6. Now the gravy is ready to serve, or you can strain the mixture for a super smooth gravy.
