Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 (15-ounce) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • ⅓ cup salsa
  • ½ cup corn kernels

  • ¼ cup cilantro
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon taco seasoning

Recipe Directions

1. Prepare the Burger Mixture

Add all of the ingredients to a food processor and pulse for about 5 to 6 seconds. The mixture should be well combined but still have some whole corn kernels for texture.

2. Preheat the Grillware or Skillet

Preheat your Grillware or Skillet over medium heat for about 3 minutes. Generously coat the surface with avocado oil spray or your preferred vegetable oil to prevent sticking.

3. Form and Cook the Patties

Use your hands to form the burger mixture into patties. Place four patties at a time in a single layer on the Grill Pan. Cook for 9 to 10 minutes on the first side, or until the burgers lift easily with a spatula and no longer stick to the grill plate.

4. Flip and Finish Cooking

Before flipping, lightly spray the tops of the burger patties with vegetable oil spray. Flip the burgers and cook for another 5 minutes, or until they are golden brown and firm enough to easily lift off the Grill Pan. Serve hot and enjoy!

Serving Suggestions

These Southwestern Black Bean Burgers are fantastic on a warm brioche bun topped with avocado slices, salsa, and a dollop of sour cream for extra richness. Serve with a side of sweet potato fries and a sprinkle of lime juice to complement the burger’s smoky flavors—perfect for a satisfying, plant-based meal with a Southwestern twist!

For a lighter option, serve these black bean burgers on a bed of greens with toppings like fresh corn, diced tomatoes, and a drizzle of chipotle mayo. Paired with a side of tortilla chips and guacamole, this makes a fun, veggie-packed twist on the classic burger that’s perfect for lunch or dinner.
