Recipe Ingredients
Maple Walnut Cinnamon Roll Dough Ingredients
- ⅓ cup + 1 teaspoon warm milk
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon + 1 pinch sugar
- 1 cup flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons butter
- ¼ cup heavy cream
Maple Walnut Filling Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 3 tablespoons walnuts, finely chopped
Cream Cheese Frosting Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter
- ⅓ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon milk
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- ¼ cup walnuts
Recipe Directions
1. Activate Yeast & Warm Liquids
Warm milk (and/or other liquids), stir in yeast (and a bit of sugar), and let it foam.
2. Mix Wet Ingredients into Dough
Combine eggs, butter, and any syrup (maple, etc.) with the yeast mixture.
3. Add Dry Ingredients & Knead
Add flour, salt, and mix/knead into a smooth dough.
4. First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size.
5. Prepare Maple-Walnut Filling
Mix maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts (plus butter as needed).
6. Roll Out & Spread Filling
Roll the dough into a rectangle, then spread the filling evenly, leaving a border.
7. Roll & Cut the Rolls
Tightly roll from one long side and slice into individual rolls.
8. Second Rise (Proof Rolls)
Place rolls in a greased pan, cover, and let them rise again until puffy.
9. Bake Until Golden
Bake in preheated oven until the tops are golden and the centers are cooked.
10. Make Maple Cream Cheese Frosting
While rolls bake/cool, combine cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, maple syrup (and vanilla or extract) to a smooth frosting.
11. Frost Rolls Warm
Spread or drizzle the frosting over the warm rolls (so it melts in nicely).
12. Garnish & Serve
Optionally sprinkle additional walnuts, slice, and serve warm.
Recipe Notes
1. When rolling out the dough, aim for a 5x10-inch rectangle. Rolling it too flat or too wide might affect the texture and structure of your cinnamon rolls.
2. Ensure your yeast is frothy after mixing with milk and a pinch of sugar. This indicates the yeast is activated and ready to work its magic, resulting in fluffy and perfectly risen rolls.
3. When spreading the butter, cinnamon mixture, and other fillings, be mindful not to go too close to the edges. Leaving a bit of space ensures your rolls seal properly, preventing any filling from leaking out during baking.
4. Use the Round Cake Pan in the Larder & Vine Bakeware Set for even baking and easy clean up.
